A few weeks ago I talked about my love of Chicago mornings. The peaceful way the city slowly starts to come to life. The quiet tree-lined streets. There is something so magical about these early hours. However, I just as equally love nights in the city. It's completely different than living in Winona. We rarely get dressed up and go to our 'downtown' to hang out at night. So, when I'm in Chicago, I take advantage of every moment I get. I'm a sucker for blazers and a night downtown calls for a button-down and and something a little bit fancy, hence the blazer. This should come as no surprise, but denim truly is my staple piece. Pairing a denim short sleeve shirt with this otherwise monochromatic outfit allowed the blues of the denim shirt to pop.

I am hoping to get the opportunity to come downtown Chicago more often and am trying to compile a list of fun things to do. Recently some friends went to Spin Chicago and had a blast. Perhaps on my next visit I will have to throw on my blazer, go to SPIN and play a couple games. But for now, grabbing pizza and beer with friends will have to do.

If you know of any fun nighttime activities in Chicago, or the Twin Cities (Minnesota) area, leave me suggestions in the comments below!

  1. Happy Memorial Day - thank you to all who have served and are serving in our military!
  2. Memorial Day calls for grilling out. I'm making bratwursts tonight.

This past week I was able to go to Chicago and spend some much needed time with Tommy. While the visit was quick, we made sure to make the best of it. Wednesday night we were able to attend The Tie Bar's 'Made to Measure' event and it was a blast. Walking around mingling with people. Enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. I am obsessed with their suits and had a great time seeing what all they have to offer. You could probably imagine how much I want a suit now. Afterwards, Tommy and I had our classic brother evening - pizza and beer. It's what we do.

While the evening was great, I need to be honest, I love mornings in Chicago the most. I love waking up and seeing the city slowly come to life. While Tommy got ready for work, I slipped on an oxford from Gap and layered up in a cozy sweatshirt from Pendleton (thanks Tommy for letting me steal some of your clothes!), and snuck out to grab us donuts from Glazed. It is so calm walking the streets. Seeing old men walk their puppies, watching friends get together for a cup of coffee before work, or watch the runner sprint the streets, training for some big race. Whether I am out at an event, enjoying some delicious pizza and an iced cold beer, or simply walking around early in the morning, there is nothing quite like being back in Chicago.

Blue Walls.

You thought the title of this article was Blue Balls, didn't you? You're disgusting. Get your mind out of the gutter... I'm kidding. But really though, you're gross.

This past weekend I enjoyed the slowly improving Chicago weather and went out for a walk around the city with my cousin. If you have ever lived in Chicago, or know anyone who has, you will likely know that we LIVE for the summer. Our excuse for everything is, "Oh, but don't worry. The summers in Chicago really make up for it." Let's put this into perspective:

Situation 1: Your wallet gets stolen on the L and the perpetrator spends $5,000 at Walmart.
A Chicagoans Response: "Oh, but don't worry. The summers in Chicago really make up for it."

Situation 2: The temperature does not break zero for two weeks during January.
A Chicagoans Response: "Oh, but don't worry. The summers in Chicago really make up for it."

Situation 3: You stub your toe early in the morning while trying to get ready for the day.
A Chicagoans Response: "Oh, but don't worry. The summers in Chicago really make up for it."

Seems reasonable enough, right?

Anyways, we stumbled upon this wall of blue and it immediately reminded me of the time I spent in Chef-Chauhan, Morocco. The walls of blue. They are everything. In addition to being obsessed with blue walls, I've developed an insane love to Uniqlo. Their style. Their fabrics choices. I love it all.
