Making Marks.

Erik Engstrom

I have been thinking a lot about life lately. About what makes me happy. What motivates me. What I can see myself doing for the rest of my life. At the end of the day, so much of life is unknown. We don't know the answer to so many questions.

Pushing myself to journal, write down my gratitudes and intentions, mediate. In the past I have phases where I say that I need to start focusing on myself, making sure that I am being the best person that I can, taking care of my health and body, and fighting to make my dreams and aspirations come true. Those phases come and go.

But here I am, in the summer of 2017, in yet another phase of inward focus. Don't ask where it came from, but I have found strong passion and desire to ensure that I am happy and healthy. Part of this is looking forward at my life. What do I what to do with the time that I am on this Earth? What goals do I have for myself? What impacts and marks do I hope to make on the people around me?

I don't have the answers to all of these questions, in fact, I may not be able to fully answer every single one of them. But I do know, that since I have renewed this focus, I have been the happiest I have been in a long time. Life has its ups and downs. My instinct is to do everything in my power to control what is happening. But that isn't how life works. So instead, I am just going to let it be.

For the Holidays...

Tommy Engstrom

we've been waiting all year for this night
and the snow is glistening on the trees outside
and all the stockings are hung by the fire side
waitng for santa to arrive

The amount of excitement that I am trying to contain is astronomical. I have been listening to *NSYNC's Home For Christmas on repeat for the last week. Christmas is in just a few days. No, I have not finished present shopping. There aren't really any decorations up in my apartment. I have not gone caroling. So what's really made me ready for the holidays?

*NSYNC + the Starbucks red cup

Don't even start to judge. We all know that the *NSYNC Christmas album is the greatest of all times. And what else puts you in the holiday spirit like Starbucks' red cup, walking around your neighborhood trying to stay warm, praying to God that you won't fall on a patch of black ice? Not much, that's what.

So as there are a few more days before the official holiday, I have put it upon myself to spruce up my apartment a little, light a pine scented candle or two, drink two Starbucks beverages a day, and listen to lots and lots of five grown men singing about the true meaning of Christmas.

When I see them pretty green eyes
Looking right back at mine
I just wanna love you, baby

Okay, okay, okay...I have to give my brother credit for this one. As much as I like to say that I am the one in the family that is the most up-to-date and in-the-know in regards to music, he went and found an incredible song that I cannot stop listening to.

It is called "Green" by DENM.

I am just going to tell you up front, don't doubt me, don't doubt Erik, just turn on your Spotify, or iTunes, or YouTube, whatever you use to listen to music, and listen to this song. And then play it again. And again. And again, until you love it so much that you may have to take a quick 5-minute break and then start the whole process over again.

When the weather starts cooling down I find myself listening to more music. I am not sure how that is really possible because I always have headphones on me in case I have a few free minutes to listen to music. If someone were to ask me what I had to bring to a deserted island? Music. Always and forever. And this song better be loaded on there!
