Don't go chasing waterfalls
Please listen to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Okay, okay, okay...those are not the lyrics to TLC's 1995 classic hit "Waterfalls." That being said, for the past 21 years, those are what I thought the lyrics were. No joke. The song would come on at a bar, on my iTunes, anywhere and everywhere, and I would belt out those lyrics. Those incorrect lyrics.
My world was changed this past June when my brother and I flew out West to visit family in Washington and Oregon for 10 days. There was one day that my brother took the car and did a mini road trip and got completely lost in the beauty of our surroundings. Waterfalls. There were waterfalls everywhere! So being the basic social media enthusiat that I am, I had to stop the car and take a Snapchat. Singing TLC's "Waterfalls." In my mind, I had crafted the perfect Snapchat. My beautiful (HA - lies) singing voice rang loud and clear. The waterfall perfectly placed in the background. The colors vibrant.
Once we got back home, we gathered around the kitchen and began talking about our day. My cousin's wife chimed in saying, "You know Tommy, I really loved your waterfall Snapchat, but perhaps you should sing the correct lyrics." Boy did I feel smart.
Moral of the story: don't look like an idiot and sing the wrong lyrics. Do your homework first.
Oh, and be sure to STICK to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
