I'm trying to learn what that saying means. Patagonia has that quote everywhere - stickers, posters, shirts. It is everywhere. And as my love and respect for Patagonia continues to grow everyday, I try to embrace that lifestyle and phrase. Simple living.
As I grasp the concept, I wrestle with my own life and how I can live simple. The obvious is - I need to rid myself of this American consumeristic lifestyle. I have always honored Patagonia's desire to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Their stores are closed on Black Friday and customers are instead encouraged to celebrate what they have in life. I have been slowly gathering clothes I wore in high school and those that I rarely wear, packing them in bags, and giving them away.
'Living simply' also carries and abstract meaning - find joy in the simple. It is easy to be distracted and overwhelmed with small nuances that play into our lives. I hope to constantly give thanks and applaud the people in my life, the roof over my head, the job I have been blessed with, and the adventures I get to take. We have one life. Celebrate it! Take advantage of it.
I'm nowhere near perfecting the idea of 'living simply.' I am aware that I have a long way to go. But with this new year, all I can do it so push myself further and embrace each and every adventure with open arms. This is the only way I will ever been able to grow and be challenged.
