Dude, Take Care of That Mug

Tommy Engstrom

Skin care. Is it really that big of a deal? We have to admit, sometimes it's easier to go to the gym, sweat all the crap out of your system, rinse your face and be on your merry way. But at the end of the day, you are stuck with your face forever. So why not take care of it from the beginning and give yourself one good looking mug? Here are a few tricks that we like using. Most of these steps or products have become a part of our daily routines and we couldn't imagine doing it any other way.

Hydrate. Okay, okay. So the weekend just ended and your system is chalk full of beer. It happens to the best of us. But your body is dying to a good dose of old fashioned H2O. It'll help clear up that hangover, but beyond that, it will help your skin look that much better. When you become dehydrated, your body tries to hang onto water where ever it can, including underneath your eyes. So keep drinking - 64 ounces a day is a pretty standard goal.

Chill out. I don't do this as much as I should. Think about any inflammation you see in your body. After a run or brutal workout, you ice said body part. So when your eyes are red and puffy, put a damp washcloth in the freezer for a few minute and then cover your eyes with it. The cold with reduce your pores, tighten your skin and get rid of any nasty puffiness.

SPF, your new best friend. We're Swedish here at The American Swede (if it wasn't obvious enough), and a curse that comes along with this heritage is fair skin. We just don't tan as easily as the rest of you. More often than not, or skin will turn a bright red before it'll even contemplate the idea of turning bronze. So no matter what time of the year it is, we will always make sure to have some SPF on. My favorite is using a moisturizer with SPF - kill two birds with one stone.

Ice cream! I mean eye cream. Wait, doesn't my mom use this stuff? you may be thinking. Yes, yes she does. At the end of the day, there is nothing attractive about damaged wrinkled skin. So why not start before the problem peeks its ugly face? Truth is, there's nothing manly about damaged, wrinkled skin, and it's a lot easier to prevent than it is to fix.
